Historic Levels of Financial Help Remain Available for the Upcoming Year, Following Federal Inflation Reduction Act Signing
TRENTON — The New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance today announced it is accepting applications for community organizations to serve as Navigators to assist residents with health insurance enrollment for the upcoming Open Enrollment Period and during 2023. The department is making available a total of $5 million in grant funding for Navigators in an effort to ensure enrollment assistance is available in the community for residents seeking coverage through Get Covered New Jersey, the state’s official health insurance marketplace, during the Open Enrollment Period that starts November 1, 2022 and throughout the year.

With the signing of the Inflation Reduction Act, President Biden and Congress have preserved a lifeline to health insurance for millions of Americans. For New Jersey, this means the preservation of record levels of financial help that have made health insurance through Get Covered New Jersey more affordable for hundreds of thousands of New Jersey residents.
TRENTON — Building on the Murphy Administration’s efforts to expand access to affordable health coverage, Governor Murphy signed legislation (A-674/S-1646) on June 30 creating the New Jersey Easy Enrollment Health Insurance Program to make it easier for residents to obtain health insurance through Get Covered New Jersey, the State's official health insurance marketplace.
“New Jersey has made great strides in ensuring more residents have access to affordable health insurance. More than 324,000 New Jerseyans signed up for health coverage through Get Covered New Jersey during the Affordable Care Act Open Enrollment Period—a record high in New Jersey,” said Department of Banking and Insurance Commissioner Marlene Caride. “I want to thank Governor Murphy for signing the New Jersey Easy Enrollment Health Insurance Program into law—this is another step forward that reduces barriers to health coverage. Enrolling more residents in health plans will lead to better health outcomes for New Jersey families.”
TRENTON —The New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance today announced that it is accepting public comment on access to comprehensive reproductive care, coverage of reproductive services and related health impacts.
The department is collecting public comment as part of the implementation of the historic Freedom of Reproductive Choice Act recently signed by Governor Phil Murphy, which codifies the constitutional right to freedom of reproductive choice in New Jersey.
“In signing the Freedom of Reproductive Choice Act, Governor Murphy protected a woman’s right to make medical decisions about her reproductive health,” said Commissioner Marlene Caride. “The department is looking forward to hearing from the public as we examine the impact of insurance coverage on the availability of comprehensive reproductive care services.”

TRENTON – Governor Phil Murphy and Department of Banking and Insurance Commissioner Marlene Caride today announced more than 324,000 New Jerseyans signed up for health coverage through Get Covered New Jersey during the Affordable Care Act Open Enrollment Period – an increase of 20 percent compared to last year – and a record high in New Jersey, as residents benefited from increased affordability from expanded federal and state financial help.
I've spent the past few days documenting the explosion of states implementing Tax Time Special Enrollment Periods. These are new policies, pioneered by Maryland a couple of years ago, which allow uninsured residents to simply check off a new box on their state tax returns which gives permission to the state treasury department and/or ACA exchange to determine whether the tax filer is eligible for free or low-cost healthcare coverage.
If the state determines that the filers/their families are indeed eligible for either Medicaid, CHIP, or a fully-subsidized ACA exchange policy, the new program then allows state agencies to contact the tax filer to let them know they're eligible and to either enroll them automatically or work with them to get them enrolled.

TRENTON – Department of Banking and Insurance Commissioner Marlene Caride today announced that more than 300 thousand New Jersey residents have signed up for health insurance at Get Covered New Jersey (GetCovered.NJ.gov) so far during the Open Enrollment Period—an increase of 21 percent compared to last year. The number of residents signed up for coverage is a record high for New Jersey, with more consumers signed up for marketplace coverage than during any prior Open Enrollment Period since passage of the Affordable Care Act.

TRENTON — Department of Banking and Insurance Commissioner Marlene Caride today announced that more than 285,000 New Jerseyans are signed up for a 2022 health insurance plan through Get Covered New Jersey so far during the three-month Open Enrollment Period that started November 1st, as consumers take advantage of record levels of financial help available through the American Rescue Plan and increased and expanded state subsidies. Total signups are up over 25 percent, with an additional 60,000 health plan selections compared to this time last year.

Open enrollment is the one time of year residents who do not have health insurance through an employer or other program such as Medicaid or Medicare can enroll in a plan. Consumers must enroll by December 31, 2021 for their coverage to take effect on January 1, 2022.
