New York: QHPs up to 343K, Medicaid 374K, Over 70% Previously Uninsured

Charles Ornstein reports that the New York State of Health issued a press release this today that states:

New York State of Health reports 717,000 enrollees in exchange plans and Medicaid, up from 660k last week.

So, that's 15,875 more QHPs and 34,935 new Medicaid additions, a 31/69 split. Last week it was a 36/64, FWIW.

The impact on the final projection is actually less than you might think, as NY's March daily average is actually holding steady at around 56% higher than February's. Now, of course, we enter into the final crunch time, so who knows?

One other point regarding the "70% previously uninsured" issue: The problem is that this applies to both QHPs and Medicaid combined, so it doesn't necessarily follow that 70% of QHPs alone were uninsured before.

70% of 717,207 = 502,044 of the total were uninsured.

However, if we assume that, say, 90% of the Medicaid enrollments weren't insured, that means:

90% of 374,312 = 336,880. If we subtract that from the 502,044 total uninsured, that leaves 165,164 QHPs previously uninsured, or about 48% of them.

Of course, that 90% Medicaid figure could be off, this is just a guess (shrug).
