Colorado: 108K QHPs (autorenewals included?), 28K Medicaid thru 12/15
A nice, no-BS, pretty comprehensive enrollment update out of Colorado:
DENVER, CO – In the first month of Open Enrollment, 136,315 Coloradans enrolled in healthcare coverage for 2015, either in Medicaid, Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) or in commercial health insurance purchased through the state health insurance Marketplace, according to new data released today by Connect for Health Colorado® and the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing.
“These initial sign-ups during this first month were consistent with our projections and culminated with a single-day record of 12,600 enrollments on December 15th,” said Connect for Health Colorado Interim CEO Gary Drews. “It’s also important to remember that it’s not too late for people to purchase health insurance for 2015. Open enrollment continues until February 15th.”
Dec. 15 was the deadline for individuals and families to select plans for coverage to begin on Jan. 1. Connect for Health Colorado will continue working with those who started their application by Dec. 15 to help finish it so they can be covered by the New Year. Customers also have to take the last step to ensure their coverage: make the first payment on time.
...The initial four weeks of open enrollment saw a total of 108,077 enrollments in commercial coverage through Connect for Health Colorado (18,893 new lives covered and 89,184 re-enrollments from 2014) and 27,306 in Medicaid and 932 in CHP+. Connect for Health Colorado also enrolled 18,075 individuals in dental plans.
For comparison:
- Last year, CO enrolled 125,402 people by mid-April (627/day)
- Through 12/11 this fall, CO had enrolled 24,811 people (919/day)
- Through 12/15 this fall, CO has enrolled 108,077 people (3,486/day)!!
Of course, this last figure is heavily skewed by the re-enrollment number....except that for the life of me, I can't figure out whether that 89.2K re-enrollment figure includes autorenewals or not. The huge number would suggest that it does, but if so, that means that only 82% of CO's current enrollees are renewing total (they had 109K enrolled as of 10/15). That means that if today's total doesn't include autorenewals, there could potentially be up to 19,000 current enrollees to be added still.
FWIW, in their prior update they stated that 2/3 of the 24,811 (16,500) at the time were manual renewals, leaving about 8,300 new additions.
In any event, that's 108K enrollees for 2015. CO is targeting 194K total this year (and my own target is only slightly higher...200K even), so they're 56% of the way there already.
