Here's an educated guess as to the possible impact on Michigan's uninsured rate:

• Michigan's population is around 9.9 million
• According to the KFF, there were around 1.1 million uninsured in MI last fall, or around 11.1%
• We've added 365K to the ACA's Medicaid expansion program. Assuming, say, 85% of these were previously uninsured, that's around 310K.
• The KFF further estimates that around 57% of total exchange QHP enrollees were previously uninsured at the time. Assuming that held true in Michigan specifically, that's around 57% out of the 245K who are known to have paid for at least their first month's premium, or around 140K.
• Combine these and you get roughly 450,000 newly enrolled out of that 1.1 million, or about 40%, leaving perhaps 650,000 still uninsured to date...a rate of around 6.5%.

However, this doesn't at all match up with Gallup's recent national survey, which, for starters, gives Michigan a starting uninsured rate of 12.5% (much higher than KFF did) and only has it dropping down to 11.9% as of this summer...0.8% higher than KFF had MI starting with. Obviously something is seriously out of whack at one end or the other. Then again, the Gallup survey is the same one which claims that Kansas' uninsured rate went up by 41%, so I'm not sure what to do with it, really.
