PAUL, Minn. — MNsure, Minnesota’s official health insurance marketplace, is encouraging Minnesotans who need health insurance for 2024 to finish their enrollment now and not wait for the last days before the December 15 deadline to sign up. MNsure’s Contact Center is open Saturday, December 9, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Saturdays historically have lower call volumes and shorter wait times.

“Comprehensive coverage through MNsure helps protect your family from the unexpected, like high medical bills from an illness you can’t anticipate,” said MNsure CEO Libby Caulum. “Signing up for a full year of health insurance through MNsure today is one of the greatest gifts you can give your family.”

MNsure is seeing increased sign-ups during this year’s annual open enrollment period, with over 3,000 more health plan selections made this November compared to the same time period last year. More Minnesotans have heard about the benefits of using MNsure to get affordable, high-quality health insurance; however, this also means more Minnesotans are calling the MNsure Contact Center with their application and enrollment questions and wait times are likely to get longer as the December 15 deadline approaches.

"Completing your 2024 enrollment now will provide you with a better customer experience and greater peace of mind than if you wait until the last minute. Check this off your to-do list now so you can spend the holiday season focused on your loved ones instead of your health insurance enrollment," added Caulum.

Key Deadlines

Friday, December 15, 2023, is the deadline to enroll for a full year of private health insurance that starts on January 1, 2024. Leading up to the December 15 deadline, the MNsure Contact Center (651-539-2099 or 855-366-7873 outside the Twin Cities) will have extended business hours:

• Wednesday, December 13: open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Thursday, December 14: open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• Friday, December 15: open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

For Minnesotans who sign up between December 16, 2023, and January 15, 2024, health insurance coverage will start on February 1 instead. These deadlines do not apply to Minnesotans who qualify for Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare or members of federally recognized tribes, who can enroll through MNsure any time of year.
